I am certified in Addiction Medicine by the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM), as well as being certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
Since graduating medical school at the University of British Columbia in 1984, I have worked in a wide range of clinical settings. I worked for close to 2 years in the small coal-mining town of Elkford (population 3,000) in British Columbia, Canada. About half my time in Elkford was spent as a solo practitioner, on call 24/7/365 with the closest specialists about three hours away.
Besides rural practice, I have also worked in a wide variety of settings from emergency departments to delivering babies, to hospital medicine, to urban practice, as well as suburban family medicine, and now as an addiction specialist in Indiana. My work in addiction medicine includes a private outpatient clinic as well as medical director of two opioid treatment programs (methadone clinics). I have also managed opioid prescriptions for chronic pain patients through my private practice for over 20 years.
Incidentally, the small town of Elkford, BC Canada, located in the Canadian Rockies, was the highest permanent settlement in Canada while Feng was there. Ergo, I can legitimately claim that once upon a time, I was the highest physician in the land!
